Top 10 Places for Dessert in Denver

Little Man Ice Cream

This is my absolute favorite ice cream in the world, hands down, and I’ve done the research. It’s true that every human has their own ice cream preferences. I think it’s a very personal thing, as your relationship with ice cream should be. That being said, I’ve eaten ice cream in every country or state I’ve visited thus far and nowhere else scratches that itch like Little Man. Why you may ask?

  • Variety of flavors
  • Best malts ever, and malts are hard to find in a lot of places. Dave says malts haven’t been a thing since the 50s and I can’t admit that. I just can’t.
  • Their ice cream sandwiches are da bomb!
  • Literally anything salted there is like a wet dream.

Inventing Room

This is a newer spot in Denver with pretty decent desserts, but it lands here because of the sheer amount of fun. It’s science and sweets! You get to watch chemical reactions used to make your sweet treat. It’s honestly great for adults and kids alike. Personally, I felt like a kid again watching them make the upside down into a dessert work of art using dry ice.

Habit Doughnut Dispensary

Which leads me to Habit: the adults only donut club. If you like your dessert filled with booze, then look no further! I was skeptical as I don’t typically like shots or booze. I went here with my friends Catina and Rachel and they forced me to try a donut with booze and I was shocked at how good it was. No worries though if a boozy donut isn’t your thing. You can totally have one sans liquor.

Sugar Mill

It’s called the Sugar Mill for a reason, but the real reason it’s on the list is for the macarons. It’s so hard to find quality macarons in the states in general, and even harder in Denver. I’ve had many a disappointing macaron in Denver. For a while I thought it just wasn’t in the cards for Denver, but then I found the Sugar Mill. They don’t have a huge variety, but what they do have is tops. They also serve food and I particularly love their breakfast and coffee. I like to grab brunch and end with a macaron. It’s never too early in the day for dessert!

Book Bar

Book Bar is one of my favorite Denver spots in general. It’s a bookstore, wine bar, café and coffee shop all wrapped up into a perfect little bow. They have some sweets there, which are alright, but the winner here is the coffee! You may say that doesn’t merit a spot on this list, but I beg to differ because their lattes are landing in my desserts category. They can be sweet, or not if you like, but a Nutella and vanilla latte with whipped cream is like an orgasm, but it lasts longer and it’s much easier to order seconds. They also have these little cream puffs made into the shape of swans that bring me so much joy! This is by far my favorite hang out spot in the Highlands.

Maggianos

I know, I know, you want to shake your fist at me for putting a chain restaurant on my list. I also realize that not everyone has this all-consuming love for Maggianos. Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn! Their desserts are bomb. I’m talking killer profiteroles, soft and chewy lemon cookies, the perfect and crackable crème brulee caramelized layer and mouth-watering cheese cake.

D Bar

Cakes, churros, souffles and all the goodies! The also have delicious food (try the mac and cheese) AND you can order your own cake for a special occasion!

Acorn @ The Source

Because fucking donuts! This restaurant is a Denver fav for dining anyway and they have all sorts of amazing desserts (my favorite is the sorrel tapioca rhubarb number), but the donuts are why this made it on my list. They make them in the morning and are first come first serve. Believe me; they will sell out early! I’ve had a few days that they were gone before I made it, so go early OR order one the second you sit down at the table. It’s also notable that Acorn is in the Source. If you haven’t been, it’s a collective of things like a brewery, bakery, florist, coffee shop, etc. all in a warehouse. It’s a really cool spot in Rhino that I highly recommend.

Euclid Hall

This is another restaurant with some fly desserts and the reason it’s made my list is the S’Mores Pot de Crème. I literally dream about it. They also have an ice cream sandy that will blow your mine.

Magill’s World of Ice Cream

Last, but not least, is a childhood favorite, which is technically in Lakewood rather than Denver, but I can’t help but include it. I grew up going to Magill’s. They have the tried-and-true old school ice cream: simple perfection. They do great shakes and malts, too. This place is perfect for kids. When I was little I used to get their clown cones. They serve the cone upside down with the ice cream on a cookie as a base. They decorate with frosting and turn the cone into the clown hat. As an adult I moved on to more sophisticated flavors. They have some of my favorite mint ice cream! They also have bubble gum and cotton candy, which I normally don’t like as this is really a kid’s flavor, but somehow they make me like even that. So good!

Of course, these are all of to debate as taste is subjective. I’d like to think I’ve been around the block a few times though and might know what I’m talking about in the dessert department, after all most of my days revolved around dessert. Let me know what you think though! What is your favorite Denver dessert?

I grew up going to magills also. I feel like a kid again every time I go! I’m going to have to try some of these other places (other then D Bar which I love, and maggianos, which I’m with you on. Mmm…)

Magill’s is the best! It always brings back such good memories, although I can’t do the clown cones anymore. They’re too sweet!

You should definitely try them all! Although if you pick only one go to Little Man. I would recommend when they open or afternoon sometime between 2-4. The lines get insane, even in the winter, and if you go there right after work or even the weekend you can easily have a 30-hour wait.

I’m glad to find a fellow Maggiano’s lover! I’ve been to Italy and I still crave that place, albeit it’s more American Italian maybe? IDK, but I have to have it every time I visit home.

Nice list, I need to scratch quite a few of these off the list still! Hands down for me is DBar, I much preferred the quaint little joint on 17th/Franklin when you could sit at the bar and drool over Keegan’s wizardry with dessert! But the giant new place is also a delight in s totally different way! We loved it so much so that they did our wedding cake with an extra special layer of matcha green tea flavor (my obsession)! On top of that, he and his wife delivered it themselves to the wedding and we got one of our most cherished wedding photos. Leave it to food nerds to be so enamored by this fate. 🤣

I didn’t know they did your wedding cake! That sounds delicious. I still have the most delicious memories of my wedding cake too, although it was carrot and made by an Icelander. 😀 Are there any favorites of yours that I left off the list?

Nutella and vanilla latte with whipped cream is like an orgasm, but it lasts longer and it’s much easier to order seconds, I second that definitely!!! Book Bar by far!
I love how cozy and intimate places like this are.

I enjoyed this post very much! Especially the comparison!

Ha ha! I love Book Bar. I used to live in walking distance, so I was there all the time. At least once a week! I still haven’t found a coffee shop in NYC that does it for me like Book Bar did. I miss. And I’m so excited that you’re liking the posts!
