Visiting the Motherland
Bucket List Item #682 – visit the motherland Novo Mesto, Slovenia I’ve grown up hearing my father tell me that we’re Slovenian, but to be honest I’ve never known much about what it means to be Slovenian. We know my great-grandparents were born in Novo Mesto and immigrated to the United States and we have lots of documentation to prove our heritage, but that’s about it. I didn’t grow up with any Slovenian traditions like potica (a delicious pastry), Name Day or Day of the Dead. I had to teach myself those things. I was told so many times that I was Slovenian, so I wanted to not just know…
A Weekend in the Catskills
Once upon a time, three months ago, I planned a weekend getaway just for Dave. He needed a break, but I knew he wasn’t going to take it unless I made him. So, I planned a weekend just for him. I rented him a tiny home in the Catskills and scheduled a guided fly-fishing trip. He would have loved it! But then his work scheduled a trip for him to London right after. Knowing that weekend was his last chance to spend time with me before leaving for two weeks, he asked me to crash his getaway. Now it was two in the tiny house. Then the forecast got crazy…
Beer Bath, Baby
Bucket List Item #629 – take a beer bath Prague, Czech Republic Yes, the beer in Prague is cheaper than water. If you walk a block outside of the tourist areas of Prague and step into the first bar you see, it’s likely you can get a Pilsner Urquell or a Kozel for less than a bottle of water. You’ll probably spend a dollar on a pint. It’s a beer drinker’s paradise, assuming you’re not expecting craft beer. Naturally, when the beer is so cheap the mind starts to wander. What else can we do with this abundance of cheap beer? Make it into ice blocks and skate on it…
High Tea at the Brown Palace
Bucket List Item #2494 – have high tea at the Brown Palace Denver, Colorado It’s the most wonderful time of the year! (Who else can’t read that line without at least humming?) Queue the angry fans for speaking about Christmas before Thanksgiving. Christmas is coming whether you like it or not and I want you Denverites to be prepared. There are so many things to do in the city around the holiday season and after doing this once I will never go back. I can’t make it this year, but the following year I will be back with a vengeance. I grew up in Colorado sort of knowing about…
