Something changed in the last year of my life. There was a paradigm shift in my beauty routine. Maybe this is what growing up looks like or maybe my taste has changed, but I found myself seeking more and more beauty products. I’ve always loved doing my makeup, but I always stuck with drugstore brands because my middle name was broke ass bitch. Things aren’t so rough now though, and neither is my boudoir.
The funny thing is that I always had this mindset about high end beauty products that they weren’t worth the month. And even if they were, I wouldn’t dream of spending $50 on a makeup palette or $30 on mascara. What I didn’t realize was a) the quality is markedly different and b) they last longer. It’s an investment. It might cost more for an Urban Decay makeup palette, but I guarantee it will last a hell of a lot longer and at the end of the day it might actually equal out. #shook
This isn’t to say that there aren’t a ton of affordable beauty products on the market that are amazing. Every line has some rock stars and you can find quality products at all price points, but I have definitely shifted into the luxury beauty realm. I honestly don’t even know who I am anymore.
So, I’ve rounded up my top 10 beauty products that I’m totally in love with and a few of them are on the affordable side. It’s not all bad! And let me preface this with saying that I am not a professional, but I do work with hair stylists and makeup artists all the time and they know what they’re talking about. I try new products almost solely because it was recommended to me by a professional, so this list should not suck too bad. 😀
I discovered ECRU at a fashion week event last season and I’ve been in love with their products ever since. I’m not a big user of hair products because I’m very finicky about the feeling of my hair. Anything even slightly tacky or sticky irritates me, so I prefer a hair product that goes on light. This bad boy is both light and effective and is a sort of catch all for me. I use this for volume, hold and a light dry shampoo.
This liquid lip color is seriously worth every penny. If you’re looking for a bold lip color that’s both easy to apply and lasts all day, then this is it! A makeup artist friend of mine, Sofiia Strykova, gifted this to me and I haven’t put it down since. I highly recommend following her because she gives the best makeup advice on her feed.
One upon a time, Mathilde Thomas, the brains behind Caudalie, wrote a book called The French Beauty Solution. I blew through the book in a day and became obsessed with all things Caudalie. Mathilde truly makes the most amazing skin care products that I think are truly great for all skin types. I’ve since added a lot of other brands to my repertoire, but there are a few tried and true products of hers that I will never stop using. Most importantly is her lip conditioner. I struggle with the worst chapped lips and can’t go anywhere without my chapstick. This little guy is a life saver!
If you’re anything like me, you’re forever pursuing the perfect mascara. The one that’s going to give you luxuriously long lashes and bedroom eyes. This has been about as close as it’s gotten for me. The wand is great and doesn’t clump easily, it gives my lashes a little length boost and it magically seems to curl my lashes a tiny bit. This has been a favorite of mine for everyday lashes. My other go to is Diorshow (which I like to see for more sultry looks), but the Benefit wins for me because of the curling factor.
Some time ago, my friend Erin Jenae graciously passed along her suggested skincare routine. Erin is a pro at skincare and has the most beautiful skin I’ve ever seen. While my skin still is miles away from perfect (it’s been a complicated lifetime of acne which has finally led me to start taking Acutane) her suggestions have helped the overall look of my skin. Erin really stressed the importance of using a vitamin C serum. It helps your skin resist fine lines and wrinkles and helps with its elasticity. I honestly think that my skin feels brighter when I remember to actually use this. The trick is not forgetting. Lol
Guys, they restocked this palette and you need to strike while the iron is hot and seriously buy this! Besides the fact that the palette makes my inner child sing, the colors are so wearable for everyday and the level of pigment is on point. I’ve been using the palette almost daily since I bought it (hence the hot mess of this palette in my photo.) With colors like “Chip”, “Thingamabob” and “Fairy Godmother”, these eyeshadows will make you smile just looking at them.
Before the primer I honestly didn’t realize life could be this way. I didn’t know primer could be so soft. It’s like spreading happiness on your skin. Then, it dries perfectly matte and leaves your skin looking like a pearl. And the pièce de résistance? It has some serious stay all day power. It has a stay all night power! Until this primer, never in my life had I got drunk, forgot to take off my makeup, passed out and then woken up at noon the next day with a full face of makeup like a boss.
I don’t think I’ve ever taken a break from Victoria’s Secrets perfumes since I was old enough to wear perfume. Shit, I remember when Love Spell first came out and all the boys loved the scent, so all of us girls just had to wear it. To be honest, in my life to date I don’t know that I’ve ever known another scent that I’ve heard men verbally endorse so often. Impressive, VC! Well, this doesn’t have shit to do with Love Spell because I’ve moved on to what I feel is a bit more sophisticated, which is Eau So Sexy. Before you go getting offended, I am not making a stab there. This is in relation to me and the weird set of rules I have in my head. I’ve moved from cherry blossoms to more mature florals like rose petals, which is what I think this smells like. (Watch me be proved wrong and there’s cherry blossoms in this too.) Anyway, I just love the VS roller perfumes because they’re so easy to travel with. They’re under the liquid allowance and leak proof, so they’re really a life essential.
My oh my, was I lost before MAC foundations. I was in an endless cycle of trying to find the right foundations for the right moment. Then there was this and the studio fix fluid foundation. I like to use the studio fix for nights out where I want heavier coverage, but the face and body is my real go-to for every day. It has a lovely satin finish and is very light weight. It’s doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all! It’s really easy to apply (especially with the perfection that is my Monica Ann primer) and works like a half way point between a foundation and a bb cream.
Never have I ever had such an easy time with a liquid eyeliner. It’s so easy to use. It glides on like butter! And there are so many color options: even options like yellow and pink! I’ve had this little guy in multiple colors and every time I get a new one, I just want more. I can’t live without it.
Not so bad, right? It turns out some of my favorite products are a bit more mid-range than I realized. Fab!
What are your go to makeup products? I always love to try new products! Tell me in the comments.
