Passaic River Great Falls
Bucket list item #2361 – Passaic River Great Falls
Paterson, New Jersey, USA
Last weekend, Dave and I went to a party a couple friends of ours were hosting. It was in New Jersey, so of (of course) the first thing I did was jump on my bucket list to see if any of my checks were nearby. There wasn’t one, but two! Sadly, one was out of season, but there was a lovely set of waterfalls ripe for the picking!
These waterfalls were in a very interesting location. There’s basically a park built around the main part of the waterfalls, which is protected, but as soon as this small park ends it’s back to city. It would be like having huge waterfalls in the middle of the local park where you walk your dog. I had never seen anything like it! It sure makes for a convenient little walk though. It took about 30 minutes for us to walk the entire park at a full mosey and aside from a few flights of stairs at the end, it was beyond easy. In fact, I bet the main path where you view the waterfalls are wheel chair accessible, so this is the easiest trek to see a waterfall I’ve ever experienced! It’s really quite neat.
What’s even cooler is the history behind the waterfall. It’s estimated that it formed somewhere in the last ice age, so it’s an oldie! Much later, in the late 1700s, Alexander Hamilton decided the falls would be used as watermills and would be the nation’s first plan for an industrial city. He hired the same engineer who made the layout for the White House to make the plans and everything went swimmingly. Heh. 😀 The watermills were in use until 1945.
This little piece of history is quite beautiful and well worth the stop by if you’re ever in the area. I mean, it’s so easy, so why not?

You can also shop my look below. This dress is a fast favorite. I’ve worn it three times in five days. Lol. I also dropped an entire ice cream cone on this dress this day and managed to get the stain out two days later, so that’s pretty alright. 😊
