These days of quarantine have brought many challenges both big and small. I know we’re all going stir crazy and struggling to come up with new ways to spend our time at home (assuming you have that luxury). For my husband and I, the thing we miss most is date night. We used to go out for dinner and/or an activity every Friday night no matter what! We’re now coming up with ideas at home, the favorite so far being a tea party!
This was super easy. I put together a makeshift set-up using pieces I had at home. All are vintage or old aside from the tiger plates. I’m adding a link below to them, plus some other favorite pieces I’ve found online.

For the spread, my three key components were scones and two tea sandwich varieties. For the scones, I wanted to go classic British and these did not disappoint! Click here for the recipe. I didn’t have time to make clotted cream, so I did a mock version that tastes similar from The Pioneer Woman. The scones were the most difficult thing I made, but surprisingly easy. It was my first time and they turned out great, so don’t let them intimidate you.
The tea sandwiches were mega easy. For the cucumber sandwiches, I mixed cream cheese, lemon juice, lemon zest, fresh dill (you can also use dry), salt and pepper. I just did this to taste (start with less lemon and slowly build) and then topped with sliced cucumber. So easy and delish!
The red pepper sandwiches were equally easy. I roasted two red pepper halves in the oven covered with olive oil, salt and pepper. While that bakes, I made my signature hummus! Click here for the recipe. It takes about 20 minutes!
Voila! A beautiful tea party spread for your next date night. I would say start to finish this took about an hour and a half. While the scones are cooking and cooling, you can easily make both sandwiches and the clotted cream in that time in order to use your time efficiently.
My husband, who typically isn’t a fan of tea, even thought this was fun. And the addition of the hummus sandwiches gave you a more protein rich vegetarian sandwich, which was really helpful for him. Overall this experience was just a blast. We had so much fun playing pretend. 😀
